Collateral (finance) in finance means a security or guarantee (usually an asset) pledged for the repayment of a loan if one cannot procure enough funds to repay.

Collateral (marketing) can refer to printed material that is used in the marketing, advertising and selling of a product or service. The term is used by advertising agencies to describe such printed material as collateral to the advertising.
