Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense (DoD) organization.

This agency helps employers understand the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, and can act as a mediator in conflicts between employers and their service member employees. USERRA is the federal law that establishes rights and responsibilities for members of the National Guard and Reserve and their civilian employers. It affects employment, reemployment and retention when employees are called to service.

ESGR also offers the following tools to help make a smooth transition from work to duty and then back to work for employers and their citizen soldiers:

  • Free USERRA training for employers
  • Informational posters
  • Military leave absence forms
  • Sample letters
  • Service policies
  • Helpful tips for employees who are called to duty

ESGR operates through a network of thousands of volunteers throughout the nation and Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
